OBJECT DESIGN + DIGITAL TWINS

Skein loves crafting bespoke design solutions for clients. As an architectural practice that works in the digital design domain, we work hard to generate more value for our clients at each and every stage of a project. Specifically, when we think about our Object Design services, we seek to be generous with our time understanding the importance to respectfully deliver meaningful, sensitive, and inclusive design responses.

Part of that is the way we seek to provide comprehensive representation techniques for our clients to understand and provide a means for better collaborative iterations. Every project we work carries with it the same embedded practise methodology, no matter the scale. From hand drawn sketches at the concept ideation stage to highly detailed 3d modelling techniques pushing toward a final form. The concept of Digital Twins to chronicle individual designs can provide a method genuine coparticipation between the stakeholder and designer.

“A digital twin is the generation or collection of digital data representing a physical object. The concept of digital twin has its roots in engineering and the creation of engineering drawings/graphics.”

Each project at Skein is a tight collaboration between the client, stakeholders, industry professionals, fabricators, and tradespeople, forming a strong team focussed on timely project delivery. Digital Twins extends the reciprocal process of design and reinforcing the client’s wishes. The twinning process forms the foundation for connected products and services as we provide our clients these proxies of the physical world.

Object design straddles a wide variety of daily programmatic use cases, we strive to generate designs which suit client needs whether easily re-configurable and multi-functional, or specific and highly tailored solutions for one off use cases. Skein is a proud South Australian architectural partnership that is dedicated to thorough and rigorous high quality design responses that are intentionally thoughtful delivering strategic outcomes.

Legendary German industrial designer Deiter Rams, suggests ten principles of Good Design. Good Design is innovative, unobtrusive, useful, aesthetic, understandable, honest, long-lasting, environmentally friendly and thorough down the last detail. The last point speaks to the idea of rigorous testing and thought, at Skein we utilise best in class engineering from the local S.A. community, further to that we seek to engage exclusively only South Australian owned businesses, be they fabricators, artisans or craftspeople to help bring our object services to life.

We take the time to connect our clients, listen to their stories and learn about their needs, this helps us to gain insight into how we can best support them. Client feedback and discussion is crucial for developing successful individual solutions for objects at all scales and Digital Twinning helps us do this.
