Flanking Sean's Kitchen in Adelaide, integrated seating and planter beds form a temporary hoarding to the new SKYCITY Development along the revitalised Station Lane. The project was realised in collaboration with @wax_design who had developed a thoughtful and pragmatic concept design for planters and seating to provide light and shade to the narrow walkway. SKIEN was engaged as part of an early contractor for design development and detailed coordination to realise a project of architectural importance understanding the scale and sensitivity to the heritage building fabric. The development of an integrated bespoke system by SKIEN was executed with an overall consistency across the long hoarding element where materiality and buildability matched the seamless nature of the design.
The integrated lighting back-lights frosted panels and accentuates the pressed metal heritage soffit of the existing canopy. Proposed mural artwork by local artist Lisa King was adopted to brighten up the hoarding surface and create an intimate connection between the dining room and the planted wall. This collaborative approach led to a 2018 SA Landscape Architecture Award for Tourism.
