Riesling
The project involves the sensitive restoration of a mid-century home nestled in the foothills of the Adelaide Hills. The existing structure will be carefully repaired and reinstated using materials, finishes, and fittings that reflect the character and craftsmanship of the original period. Emphasis is placed on preserving the home’s clean lines, modest scale, and strong relationship to the surrounding garden and landscape.
Internally, the floor plan will be thoughtfully reconfigured to improve spatial flow and create more comfortable transitions between living and sleeping zones. Existing rooms will be rationalised to reduce fragmentation, allowing spaces to connect more intuitively while maintaining the clarity typical of mid-century design. Subtle changes in level, joinery, and sightlines will help define areas without relying on excessive partition walls.
The addition is designed as a contemporary yet sympathetic extension that complements the original dwelling rather than competing with it. Its form, materials, and proportions draw cues from the existing house, while clearly expressing its newness through restrained modern detailing. Together, the restored home and addition create a cohesive, functional residence that honours its mid-century origins while supporting contemporary family living.
