Wind Water
A renovation project that transforms a pokey 1980’s floor plan into a open-plan family home with multiple entertaining areas.
In progress.
Wind Water is an architectural renovation that reimagines a coastal dwelling in Victor Harbor through a sensitive response to place, climate, and lived experience. Drawing inspiration from the site’s defining elements - the prevailing winds and the constant presence of the sea—the project balances resilience with calm, crafting spaces that feel both protective and open.
The renovation carefully adapts the existing structure, prioritising reuse and refinement over replacement. New interventions are shaped to frame ocean views, capture cooling breezes, and make the most of natural light throughout the day. Material choices reflect the coastal environment: robust, tactile finishes that weather gracefully, paired with lighter elements that echo water, sky, and movement.
Internally, the layout is clear and connected, improving circulation while strengthening the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces. Thresholds are softened through timber flooring transitions between decks and living areas, a variety of window and door openings, and sheltered outdoor spaces. The combination of window and door types and shading devices allow the house to respond dynamically to changing weather conditions.
Wind Water is a project about attunement - listening to the landscape and shaping architecture that works with natural forces rather than against them. The renovation delivers a reimagined home that is sustainable, enduring, and deeply grounded in its coastal setting.
